Today Verizon Wireless announced that its V CAST Apps store front is now available on most BlackBerry smartphones. The software is currently available on the BlackBerry Bold 9650, the Storm 2 9550, the Curve 8530, and the Tour 9630. Verizon Wireless will roll out V CAST Apps to the Storm 9530 and Cure 8330 in the coming weeks.

Today Google published data suggesting that 55.5 percent of all Android smartphones are running the Android 2.1 (Eclair) version of the Android OS. Android 2.2 (Froyo) accounts for 3.3 percent, Android 1.6 (Donut) is on 22.1 percent, and Android 1.5 (Cupcake) 18.9 percent. The numbers were culled from 2 weeks of Android Market data ending on July 15, 2010.

In an interview with Pocket-Lint, Microsoft’s Greg Sullivan said that the upcoming Windows Phone 7 smartphone platform would use only Bing for search, due to its heavy integration. Sullivan added that other search providers should be able to offer search apps for WP7 phone in the future. This comes as no real surprise and is little different from what Google has done with Android.

Today HTC announced that it will use new Super LCD (SLCD) displays in its Desire and Nexus One Android powered smartphones. Super LCD offers improved power management over earlier LCD panels, as well as better viewing angles enabled by Sony’s VSPEC III technology. HTC says that the switch to Super LCD will allow the company to better meet demand. HTC has recently seen shortages of Samsung’s AMOLED displays, causing longer wait times for carriers to receive phones.

Eye-Fi recently announced a new Eye-Fi Mobile Center client for the iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android smartphones. Eye-Fi Mobile Center lets you access your Eye-Fi account to view your Eye-Fi history, settings, and the last 7 days of shared content. Eye-Fi owners can access the Eye-Fi Mobile Center by visiting m.center.eye.fi from their smartphones.
